Guru Nanak’s Gurpurb Celebrations continued at the Gurdwara Sahib with volunteers undertaking another basic principle of Sikhism introduced by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Vand Chakna or Sharing and Consuming together, is an important part of Sikhism and sharing our wealth with the community and with those that need it the most, is something we should all be doing on a regular basis.

Volunteers form the Guru Nanak Gurdwara cooked meals in the morning and then in the afternoon took meals, to Surrey’s Downtown. Meals were served to the homeless and hungry in Surrey which, consisted of Kidney Bean Vegetable Curry, Chai and Indian Sweets. Volunteers at the Gurdwara serve meals to the homeless and hungry on a regular basis, not only to the homeless in Surrey but also to the homeless in Vancouver, in the downtown eastside of Vancouver on Main and Hastings Street. The Gurdwara Sahib also provides meals to Sikh non-profit organizations like Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen which serves meals on a weekly basis in Vancouver.

To help out in this seva, cooking and serving meals to the homeless in our community, email or come to the Gurdwara Office and put your name down.
