Sikh’s highest authority calls for unity and focus on youth

Surrey, BC – In a historic visit to British Columbia on Thursday
October 14th, The Jathedar (Sikh High Priest) of the Sri Akal Takht
Sahib in Amritsar, Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh visited the Guru
Nanak Sikh Gurdwara. The Jathedar of the Akal Takht is the highest
spokesperson of the Sikh Nation. The Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the
highest political institution of the Sikhs.

The Jathedar was visit Calgary, Alberta on a personal visit and was
invited to British Columbia by the Youth Executive of Guru Nanak Sikh
Gurdwara in Surrey to discuss issues of education, drug abuse, and
empowering the youth for a brighter future for the Sikh community. The
Jathedar spent the day touring Sikh educational institutions in Surrey
as well as meeting with Sikh families to get feedback on issues
important to Sikhs in Canada.

The one day tour ended with a visit to the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara
where thousands of Sikhs gathered to hear the Jathedar address the
local Sikh community. In his speech, the Jathedar called for unity and
to direct our focus to the future generations. “Sikh institutions and
organizations must unite to spread the universal message of Sikhism
for the betterment of humanity.” He commended the efforts of the new
Youth Executive who worked hard to gain control of the Gurdwara and to
bring positive change in the community.

After touring the Gurdwara Sahib, the Jathedar sat down with OMNI
Television and took open questions related to ongoing Sikh issues.
