Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara’s summer internship program allows students to further the mission and vision of the Sikh Community by helping to plan and execute programs and services. Our interns have the opportunity to gain hands on experience with a non-profit organization and will be participating in events and programs for all parts of the local Sikh community. Undergraduate and graduate students that apply should be hard-working, enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible, and dedicated to giving all that they have to offer so that, together we can make a difference.

Time Commitment
During the summer, we require a commitment of 3 days or 20 hours a week for a minimum of ten weeks at the Guru Nanak Gurdawra’s Surrey, B.C. office.

  • Sports Intern – Connect youth and seniors to outdoor activities through sporting events.
  • Outreach Intern- If you are interested in educating the greater community on who the Sikhs are and creating a positive image for Sikhs in society, this internship might be right for you.
  • Education Intern- Planning educational programs for our youth and seniors, through Punjabi and other classes.
  • Environmental Intern- Creating green policies around the Gurdwara Sahib and educating the community on environmental issues.
  • Social Services Intern- Creating programs and services for Women and Seniors.
  • Technology Intern- Creating website planning for community based websites and working on the Gurdwara IT infrastructure.
  • Marketing & Communication Intern- Defining and Executing marketing and communication strategies for community initiatives.

Summer Stipend
Summer interns who complete their commitment with Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara will receive a financial stipend of $500-$1,000, depending on experience.

How to apply
Interns are selected through a competitive process. Each applicant is required to submit the following to contact@gnsg.ca:

  1. A cover letter stating for which internship you are applying and the reasons you would like to intern at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara and;
  2. A current resume

The application deadline is May 29, 2010. Summer internships are highly competitive. Please apply early.

Class Credit and/or Work Study
In the past, some interns have been able receive class credit for their work at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara. We will be happy to coordinate with your school in providing the necessary documents for these requirements.
