Project Coordinator
The Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Society (GNSG) is a religious charitable organization based in Surrey, BC. It was founded in 1976; with over 30,000 members, it is currently one of the largest Sikh Societies in North America. GNSG operates a Gurdwara located on Scott Road and actively organizes various community events (see gnsg.ca).
Since 2010, GNSG has redefined what a Gurdwara can do, taking langar to the streets, helping raise over a million dollars for Haiti, and even sending sewadars to disaster zones. We are now again looking to expand beyond the traditional roles of a Gurdwara, by actively engaging the youth, seniors, and the public.
Objective:
GNSG is looking to hire a full-time Project Coordinator. We need someone who can organize volunteers, coordinate projects, and help outreach work. This is the first time any Gurdwara has hired staff for such a position, so this is new, both for us, and for you. We need someone that is well versed in Sikh community issues, be flexible with the growing position, and provide experience.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- One-year commitment to this position
- Demonstrated commitment to community service and sewa
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of agency contacts and volunteers
- Fluency in English and Punjabi
- Group facilitation, community organizing, and program management skills are critical
- Excellent interpersonal and strong administrative skills, including an ability to manage and multitask
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office
What we offer:
- A competitive salary
- Flexible work schedule
- Ability to do start something new and groundbreaking
- Opportunity to serve your community
