GNSG – Aug 28 2010 Press Release

August 28th 2010

Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Surrey B.C. was shocked that the Gurdwara was the scene of an unfortunate incident early this afternoon.  There were shots fired in the parking lot by individuals that were partaking in a wedding function.

The RCMP was on the scene immediately and has control of the situation and is continuing on their investigation. As far as we understand, it was a personal dispute that unfortunately found its way into the Gurdwara parking lot.
This event or the individuals involved have no connection with this Gurdwara and the Gurdwara strongly condemns this and every act of violence.

Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara is one of the largest Sikh Temples in North America and is managed and operated under guidance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sri Guru Granth Sahib is an embodiment of all representations of god that ever existed in history of humans and therefore for all of humanity and does not see a difference from any one individual to another. People of all countries, all backgrounds and all religions are welcomed at the Gurdwara Sahib to heal, uplift, and serve.

We as Sevadaars and committee do not bar restrict anyone from attending the Gurdwara. Any reference to past incidents at the Gurdwara linking them to this Event or references to politics that took place here or in the Sikh community are grossly inaccurate this is an isolated incident and we would appreciate if media reports are presented in the proper context.

As this is an ongoing police investigation, all questions related to this incident should be directed to the Surrey RCMP.
